THE HERMITAGE OF SAINT MARY MAGDALENE

It is one of the oldest buildings in Banyeres, from between the 13th and the 14th centuries. Its style is the rural gothic.

It is a free-standing construction built with masonry and a sloping roof of Arabic tiles. Its facade, oriented to the West, is pentagonal, with its upper vertex truncated by its belfry. Its door is reinforced with a zinc sheet, and on it an oval oculus gives light to the hermitage. A belfry consisting of two pillars and a slender pointed arch tops the angle of the pediment. It is an only rectangular nave with ogival diaphragm arches and a roof of five beams resting on those arches and the side walls. The whole ceiling is white-plastered, what partly masks its medieval characteristics.

This hermitage has a great importance during the month of July, as several events in Her honour are celebrated, such as fairs, correfocs and processions.
